Atlanta Braves dominate in Game 5 Performace: Atlanta World Series Champions

Date: Wednesday November 3, 2021

Congratulations to the Atlanta Braves on winning the World Series last night in dominating fashion as they beat the Astros in Game 5 of the score 7-0. Great pitching and defense and home run hitting offense paved the way for the Braves in game 5.

I was in middle school when the Braves won their World Series with an all-star Hall of Fame cast. It was cool to see this Atlanta team get hot at the right time and win despite having some key injuries at the end of the season and in the playoffs.

Congrats to former all-star Reds player Adam Duvall who is an Atlanta Brave and was a vital part of their success. My theory still stands true all of these years:

Theory: If a an all-star Reds player is traded or signs with another team because the Reds do not want to pay the player well and they end up winning a World Series ring.

Post 1990 World Series Reds Champions, It all started when all-star OF Paul O’Neill (1985-1992 as a Red/1993-2001 as a Yankee) became a New York Yankee. He goes from winning the 1990 World Series with the Reds to then having a remarkable career as a Yankee and winning World Series with them in 1996, 1998, 1999, & 2000. That’s right a 5 time World Series Champion. Reggie Sanders all-star OF became a Arizona Diamondback and won the 2001 World Series. Aaron Boone got traded in 2003 right after the All-Star game where he played in the All-star game as a Red but then traded to the Yankees that night. He hit an iconic game winning HR to send the Yankees to the World Series where they unfurtunately lost. He is the only player from my theory that did not win the World Series but had to mention him. Pokey Reese, all-star SS/2nd Basemen got traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2004 when they won the World Series in dramatic fashion that year after being down 3-0 to the Yankees in the American League Championship and coming back to beat the Yankees 4-3 in the series. The Red Sox then played the St Louis Cardinals for the World Series and beat them. Pokey Reese made the fiinal out to win the World Series as he got a ground ball at second base and scooped it up and threw it to David Ortiz for the victory. In 2015, Johny Cueto all-star pitcher for the Reds was traded to the Royals and the Royals won the World Series in which he pitched Game 2 of the World Series and pitched a complete game which has rarely been accomplished. Lastly, all-star OF Adam Duvall traded to Atlanta in 2018 and wins the 2021 World Series. Congrats to all of these players on getting a World Series Championship post the Reds last one in 1990..

Bengals Crush Ravens, Lose to Jets, Get Ready for Browns

Date: Wednesday November 3, 2021

Writer: Anthony Iles

The Cincinnati Bengals made a statement against the Ravens at Ravens 2 weeks ago. They came in with a great game plan to put pressure on Jackson while the Bengals offense controlled the flow and won 41 – 17. All 3 phases of the game for the Bengals were A grade and because of that they gave the Ravens their worst home loss in many years.

This past Sunday the Bengals (5-2) traveled to New York to face the Jets (1-5). The Bengals knew this game could be a “trap” game after beating their AFC North rival. The Jets showed up and scored 34 points. The Bengals led by 10 with 6 moinutes left in the game but a costly turnover on offense with under 4 minutes remaining allowed the Jets to get a touchdown and go up by 3. The Bengals lost 34-31. Defense needed to play better and cause more punts in the second half and on offense they needed to take care of the ball better. If you are going to lose a game like this they are fortunate it is at the beginning of the season. This is a game you need to win and hopefully this young Bengals team can learn from it. I think they will.

This upcoming Sunday November 7 at 1:00 pm the Bengals (5-3) host the Browns (4-4) at Paul Brown Stadium. This is a huge game for both teams. I think the Bengals will bounce back and get the W to get their record to 6-3 going into their BYE week. The Ravens had their BYE week last Sunday so currently Ravens are 5-2 and will play at home against the Vikings. That will be a touch matchup as the Vikings are playing better now compared to at the beginning of the season. If the Browns lose they will drop to 4-5 and then have to travel the next week to play at New England where I think they will lose and then be 4-6.

It will be a good game this upcoming Sunday and I know the Bengals will come out strong and be voctorious!!! WHO DEY!!

Bengals Crush Lions as they Roar in Victory

Date: October 20, 2021

Writer: Anthony Iles

The Bengals went into the lions den at Ford Field in Detroit, MI this past Sunday and came our roaring in victory 34-11 !

The Bengals scraped and clawed their way around the field and controlled the game. The Lions did not score until the 4th Quarter and it was evident all game their offense is struggling mightily. Their defense seems solid but when you are out on the field for 70% of the game you are going to eventually get worn out. Joe Burrow and company moved up and down the field well especially in the second half. Joe threw for 271 yards and 3 touchdowns. He had 1 interception but it was his WR fault as it went right threw his hands. Mixon had an all around dominate game rushing the ball 18 times for 94 yards with averaging 5.2 yards per carry. He also had 5 receptions for 59 yards averaging 11.8 yards per catch with his longest being a 40 yard TD pass on a 4th and 1 play in the second half. Click here to see the stiff arm Chase uses to allow Mixon to score the TD!! (Go to the 50 second mark on the video) Ja’Marr Chase had another solid game catching 4 passes for 97 yards with averaging 24.3 yards per catch. He caught another 50 + yard ball for 53 yards in this game.

The defense of the Bengals held the Lions to 11 points and forcing the Lions to punt 6 times. It is nice to see the Bengals be able to play solid defense once again. It has been a few years since they have been consistent. With the addition of free agents like Apple and drafting some players the defense is on the same page and playing at a high level.

Next up for the Bengals (4-2) are the Ravens (5-1) at 1:00pm on CBS as the Bengals travel to Baltimore to play where the Ravens are 3-0 at home. Let’s see this Bengals team control the ball and get the W to tie things up in the AFC North and both be at 5-2 when it is all over with on Sunday.

Packers Out Kick Bengals in OT Thriller

Writer: Anthony Iles

Date: October 11, 2021

The Packers vs Bengals was a great game in what looked like would end in a tie because the kickers kept missing game winners. In the first quarter, both defenses came out hot as they controlled field control. Bengals led 7-0. In the 2nd quarter, Aaron Rodgers settled in and began moving his team up and the down the field throwing to Adams, controlling the clock, and getting a couple TDS getting 16 points. Towards the end of the 2nd quarter Burrow and the Bengals offense started to move the ball well and got a much needed TD from Burrow to Chase at the end of the second quarter. At Halftime it was Packers 16 – Bengals 14. In the 3rd quarter both defenses adjusted well to all of the minor adjustments made at halftime. Packers had 3 points in the 3rd quarter to the Bengals 0. Going into the 4th Quarter Packers were up 19-14. They got a field goal to go up 22 – 14. Bengals then got a good drive controlling the clock as Mixon got a TD. Bengals then went for 2 and Higgins caught it to tie the game.

This is where the game gets crazy. Packers get the ball and a chance to win by a FG. Packers do make it down the field. Crosby lines up to kick and misses!!! There is about 2 minutes left in the game after this. Bengals get the ball and move it well getting to a 57 yard FG range to win with about 30 seconds left. Bengals kick it and it misses barely hitting the post. Green Bay now gets the ball and move it down in FG range. Crosby kicks and misses!!! Game goes into overtime!

In overtime Bengals win the toss and elect to receive. On the first play Burrow makes a pass but to a spot where no one was but a defender!!!! Packers are now in FG range and a chance to win with a FG. Crosby kicks and misses!!! Bengals get the ball. Burrow moves the ball down the field for a 46 – 49 yard FG. McPherson kicks for the win and the ball starts right down the middle but then the gusty wind that had been there all game on these kicks picked up and it when high to the left of the post and barely misses!!!! The Packers now have the ball and there is about 2 minutes left in OT. IT would be fitting to end in a tie with how this game had gone. Rodgers on 3rd and long hit his pal WR Cobb and got the ball inches to a first down. Packers elect to send Crosby out 1 more time for a 49 yarder. Will one of the kickers finally make the kick???? Crosby nails it and Packers win 25 – 22. Hard fought game by both teams.

The kickers had some key misses but this was not the only game. Week 5 so far there were at least 4 -5 games where kickers missed to help their team to win or tie which led to the other opponent to have a chance to win.

Now both Bengals and Packers need to have short term memory as they get ready for their next week opponents. Bengals will play at Detroit on Sunday October 17 at 1:00 P.M. on FOX and the Packers play at Bears 1:00 P.M. on FOX. Check your local area listings to see which game you will see.

AJ Green and Cardinals 4 -0

Writer: Anthony Iles

Wednesday October 6, 2021

A.J, Green one of my favorite Bengals players of all time is now an Arizona Cardinal. It is nice to see this veteran WR be on a winning team that will have a chance to make the playoffs and a potential deep playoff run. This Arizona team also got J.J. Watt on defense this season as he signed on and got out of Houston.

Green is putting up familiar numbers starting out this season and is healthy again. In the first 4 games here are his stats:

Game 1 @ Titans: 2 receptions 25 yards 12.5 yards per catch 21 longest catch

Game 2 vs Vikings: 3 receptions 44 yards 14.7 yards per catch 29 longest catch 1 TD

Game 3 @ Jags: 5 receptions 112 yards 22.4 yards per catch 36 longest catch

Game 4 @ Rams: 5 receptions 67 yards 13.4 yards per catch 41 longest catch 1 TD

Season Total: 15 catches 248 yards 16.5 yards per catch 41 longest catch 2 TDs

Green and Hopkins make for a great duo because if you try to double team one of them it leaves them one on one. Very hard to guard those excellent WR one on one. I hope the Cardinals have great success this year and AJ possible to get another 1,000 season in his 11th year as a pro!
