Bengals Kick Jags Out of PBS

The Cincinnati Bengals played on Thursday Night Football last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In the national spotlight as they were the only NFL game on that night to kick off Week 4 of the NFL regular season. Historically, the Bengals have not had an efficient winning percentage during prime time games. However, as Fall is approaching and the leaves will be changing colors, the Bengals are turning a new leaf and changing before our eyes.

The young Bengals core played against the Jags QB Rookie Trever Lawrence and first time NFL Head Coach, Coach Urban Meyer. With this being the 4th NFL game for both of these individuals they seemed to finally get into a good groove as the first 3 games it had been a struggle at first but each game getting better. The Bengals have been on a mission playing with a chip on their shoulder to prove to the AFC North and all the NFL they are for real and ready to roar. Both defenses played solid throughout the game. On offense Joe Burrow and company moved the ball well and were able to control the clock more in the second half. The Jags got in good rhythm on offense as they kept their plays simple and mainly short passes.

In the end it came down to ball control and the Bengals milking the last few minutes of the game. They were able to get some key first downs on the final drive and get into field goal range with a few seconds left on the clock with the score ties 21 – 21. Rookie Kicker Evan McPherson has ice in his kicking leg as he nailed the game winner to put the Bengals at 3-1 and the Jags fall to 0-4.

It was a great team win for the Bengals and now they must prepare for the Packers coming to the Jungle on Sunday October 10 at 1:00 P.M. on Fox. The Bengals, Ravens, and Browns are all 3-1 in the AFC North and the Steelers lost to the Packers falling to 1-3 to begin their season. Never count the Steelers out but this season feels different for them and I believe it is the start of a rebuilding phase as this will be Big Bens last year. I look for the Steelers to be 8 – 9 record this season if they continue the way they have been playing these first 4 games. As for the rest of the AFC North, they sky is the limit for these teams and it will come down to the last 2 games of the season to decide an AFC North Division Winner and a playoff berth.

Bengals Beat Steelers: Cincinnati now 2-1 as Steelers drop to 1-2

Bengals are clawing their way up to the top in the AFC North as they go to Heinz Field and dominate the Steelers in a 24 -10 win. Steelers do not look good on offense and the defense is now average. The once dominate force on all phases during a football game the Steelers have regressed. The Bengals however made significant upgrades this off season and improved in all areas. Defense plays with an attitude and offense has a young core that has now formed good chemistry. The offensive line improved from the last 3 seasons and now looks to be a solid group. Against this Steelers defense the Bengals gave up 0 sacks! Finally good to see Joe Burrow not go down on the grass. I think it is great the Bengals drafted Ja’Marr Chase as their round 1 draft pick. He is AJ Green 2.0 for this team. Media did ask the coaches if their decision was affected by the connection Burrow had with Chase with drafting him. They gave a good professional answer to get around it by saying they drafted what they thought was best for the team. I think a lot had to do with Burrow and Chase connection and it is paying off as they are connecting well at the pro level as well getting deep bombs and TDs. So cool to watch. Also another LSU player that played with Burrow that is on the Bengals is TE Thaddeus Moss, NFL HAll of Famer Randy Moss son. Thaddeus is on the Bengals practice squad starting out but if one of the 2 TE on the active roster get hurt he will be called up to be on the active roster. It is rare you get to have 3 players on your pro football team that all played together in college (these 3 at LSU) and were on the National Championship team while all 3 had huge impacts with winning the National Championship. I hope Moss ends up on the Bengals active roster as the season goes on. I think he will be a great addition to the 53 man roster. To see Burrow out there with Chase and Moss would be cool to see.

Cam Newton Released by Patriots

Writer: Anthony Iles Date: August 31, 2021

Today, Cam Newton has been released by the Patriots. There was a feeling after the NFL draft that Newton would be in the “hot seat” to perform well in practice in order to be the starter. Rookie Mac Jones will be QB1 as Cam will be looking for another team to join prior to the season starting in less than 2 weeks.

Cam had been struggling last season as the Patriots QB but I felt year 2 he would get better in the system and lead them into the playoffs. However, the Patriots feel Mac Jones is a better fit for their offense and Cam can’t be a backup at 32 and still plenty to prove. There are a few teams that he can go to but might have to be the backup starting out the season and then hopefully next season get a starting spot somewhere. Teams he could go to are the Washington Football Team, Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans or even the Titans.

It will be interesting to see where the veteran ends up especially considering the regular season begins in 2 weeks.
