Steelers Take W Over Bengals 44 – 38

In a classic AFC North battle the Bengals and Steelers made history with their matchup. At halftime they had the highest total combined points in a first half against one another with 48 combined points. Score at halftime was Steelers 27 to Bengals 21.

Each defense had their struggles but also a few positives. Early in the game the Bengals defense got a pick 6 with CB Cam Taylor-Britt. However, as the game went on the Bengals defense lacked QB pressure and simple tackling which cost them yards and TD’s. Steelers defense struggled to stop Joe but they had 3 positives with 2 fumbles that they recovered and 1 interception. One of those turnovers resulted in a touchdown just like the Bengals.

Steelers QB Wilson played sound and took what the defense gave him. Burrow did the same thing. Joe showed why he was voted player of the month. Only thing that stinks is Bengals have recently has losses in this effort by Bengals offense. They literally have to play A+ on offense with no mistakes to get a win. Bengals had 3 mistakes which cost them a W since the defense could not respond and get the ball back to the offense to win the game.

Steelers climb into 1st Place in the AFC North at 9 – 3 and the Bengals fall to 4 – 8. The way Burrow and the offense is playing their record should be flipped to at least 8-4 if not 10 -2. Bengals are now on their last lifeline and have to win last 5 games to finish at 9 – 8 and get last wildcard spot for the AFC playoff bracket. The remaining opponents are the Cowboys, Titans, Browns, Broncos, and Steelers. If the defense can wake up and play with a chip on their shoulder like they did in week 2 vs Chiefs they can win all these games and strike lighting as they climb into the playoffs.

Bengals will be without kicker McPherson as he has a groin injury but kicker York was signed. LB Wilson had minor surgery to clean up his knee. He might be out the rest of the season. Now is the time to see what the younger defensive players can do to help generate some wins and provide some hope for the rest of this season.

I have seen many scenarios occur where teams get hot at the end of a season and get into the playoffs. Just like in years past with the saying, “Why Not Us”…….Bengals can do this. Many do not believe they can but I believe. Anytime Burrow and the offense is playing like this they will help give you a chance to win. Now is the time to have all phases of the football team lock in and win. Offense…Defense…Special teams!! You can do this!! Play with a chip on your shoulder and show why you belong in the top tier of teams with Burrow leading the way!!
